Aug. 13: Give Your Best!
This week, I had the opportunity to attend my son's varsity soccer tryouts. One thing that left a strong impression on me was the coach's teaching. While pushing the kids to their limits, the coach said, "If you really want to be on this team, you have to give it your all. If you want to do it half-heartedly, don't bother joining the team. If you’re not ready to give your best, you are more than welcome to go home! Bravo to the coaching staff! Those words have been echoing in my ears. In sports, it's obvious that you need to be consistent and give your best. The same applies to our lives as Christians.
Somewhere along the way, the lives of Christians have become comfortable, personalized to our preferences, with faith centered not on Jesus but on ourselves. We see people who think they're living a good Christian life by attending worship casually, reading the Word moderately, and praying only occasionally. Surprisingly, there are too many people like this. If kids are undergoing mental and physical training just to join a soccer team, how is our spiritual training going? Are you truly giving your best in worship, prayer, and living out the gospel? Are you loving God with all your heart? Just as the coach’s voice resonated loudly across the field, I pray
that there will be a similar spiritual resonance in our souls. Let's love and worship God with all our hearts and give Him our very best!
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
