July 30: Father's Hand

When I was 10 years old, my family immigrated to Canada from South Korea. Despite my parent’s best efforts to explain the process to me, I had very little understanding of what was actually going to happen once we arrived. I spoke no English, knew nothing about the country that would be my new home, and understood even less the long-term ramifications of immigrant life. Nevertheless, I put my little hands into theirs and happily boarded the plane. You could call it trust, obedience, or ignorance – after all, I had very little choice in the matter. But in that moment, I wasn’t at all worried about leaving my friends and extended family behind because I knew that my parents would still be with me when we landed in Canada, and that was all that mattered.

Some days, I still feel like that little boy, clutching a comic book and boarding a plane headed for the unknown. When I am face with unexpected struggles, I realize that there is still so much I do not understand and that I have no control over the future. But when I place my shaking hands in the big, trustworthy hands of my Father, I feel assured that as long as He is with me, everything is going to turn out alright. This is not just wishful thinking but it is a firm conviction based upon His Word, which promises that no matter what life throws at us, our futures are secure in His hands.

Dear friends, I invite you to place your hands to Jesus, trust and walk with Him today. God is with you!

Yours in the Matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer!
