You Can Change a Life

By Pastor Tom Anderson

Is God calling you to our mission to Mexico February 18-25, 2023? About 10 have declared their intention to go to Rio Bravo. We’d like to see 20 so that we can have two work teams.

You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgivings to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11-12)

Work can include construction of community buildings, schools, or small concrete block homes called casitas, Mission Bible School, clinical and dental work, special skill training, cooking, painting, general assistance at the mission, or other light construction and home repairs.

The cost of the trip is $375 per person for the week. Our rummage sale proceeds will go towards the cost of materials for construction. Transportation to McAllen Miller International Airport in south Texas is not included. If you would like help with transportation scheduling, please contact Karie Saunders or Sabina Persons..

A deposit of $100 is due with your registration. The balance is due 45 days prior to the mission. Make all checks payable to Thrive Church noting in the memo line: Mexico Mission. Cancellation prior to the mission – 45 days, total refund; 44-15 days, $175 refund; 14-0 days – no refund. In lieu of refund, unused fees may be designated as a tax deductible donation to this mission.

Missioners will stay in a clean, heated/AC dorm. Each 4 person room has 2 twin-size bunk beds, a bathroom, and a shower. Electricity is the same as in the States. Safe water is furnished. Some food will be brought in from the U.S. and prepared by the team, and some meals will be prepared by Manos Juntas. Dietary requirements should be communicated early.

No Inoculations required. Tetanus shots recommended.

As a team member, you'll help change lives in Rio Bravo while having a life-changing experience yourself. Together with other volunteers you may help construct a house for a local family, participate in running Mission Bible School, help serve at a remote medical clinic, or build a new home for a local family. Plus you'll establish relationships with local residents and others, and enjoy neighborhood children and adults as they stop by to see what's going on. Come expecting God to do big things, you won't be disappointed!

Rio Bravo, Mexico is near the southern point of the Texas border. It is a semi urban center famous for its factories. The factories employ a large percentage of the residents and produce a variety of goods- exported both nationally and internationally. The area experiences a large influx of migrants, from Mexico's interior, seeking employment. Others have migrated to Rio Bravo with the hope of crossing the border into the US. Many of Rio Bravo's residents are

young, unskilled, poorly educated, and impoverished.

Manos Juntas Mexico (MJM) is a (certified charity) Non-Government Organization in Rio Bravo, Mexico. On their secure premises are offices, a dorm for missioners, and a medical/dental/vision clinic. MJM works closely with the Methodist Church of Mexico to organize volunteers, mission work, and local church participation.
